March bookends strong auto sales quarter

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Many automotive buyers have not been able to turn down new car prices through the first few months of 2012, as a new report indicates car sales have been swift.

According to J.D. Power and Associates Power Information Network* and LMC Automotive, new-vehicle sales totals in March are projected to continue what has been a streak of sales gains, potentially totaling nearly 1.1 million units. If the assessment proves to be accurate, it would be the highest monthly sales pace since the fall of 2009.

John Humphrey, senior vice president of global automotive operations at J.D. Power, said the high rate of sales has many automotive experts believing that the car industrys worst days have long since passed.

“Each month of strong sales brings with it increased optimism that the pace of growth represents a true recovery for the sector,” said Humphrey.

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Tiger.co.uk, the price comparison website, has announced that it has added to its panel of insurance partners with the inclusion of car insurance brand Zenith Plus.

Coverage provided under the Zenith Plus car insurance product includes breakdown cover and legal expenses.

Both of these are often sold as optional extras to standard car insurance policies.

Goulborn went on to say that the standard Zenith product had been available for the last six months and that he was pleased that the site could now offer the enhanced product in addition to this.

Tips for avoiding road rage

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Road rage has played a role in a number of accidents and despite the risk of getting overly angry while driving, it seems many have a difficult time curbing their ire. Attorney Mark Bello has provided some tips on injuryboard.com that may be helpful for staying calm even in tense driving situations.

Drivers should not feel drawn in by confrontation and should not respond in-kind to signs of aggression, including being cut off. Bello recommends taking the nearest exit to remove yourself from the situation and pulling into the parking lot of a police station or heavily populated area if an angry driver pursues you.

Drivers may also avoid road rage by monitoring their driving to ensure they don’t commit the common errors that anger others on the road. These include not signaling or allowing enough room when changing lanes, and tailgating other vehicles. Driver courtesy is essential and planning extra time to reach your destination may alleviate some of the anxiety you feel on the road, Bello also suggests.

Above all, if you feel threatened, contact the police.

RSA warns drivers of twilight zone danger

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Global insurer RSA has advised motorists that taking extra care as British Summer Time commences is wise, as figures reveal a spike in collisions during twilight after the clocks change.

RSA UK & Western Europe Chief Executive Adrian Brown said that regular eye tests were as important as an MOT when it comes to driving safely, and advised drivers to have their eyes checked every few years.

Twilight is an especially difficult time for vision, as the eyes must continually adjust to rapidly fading light.

There is only a basic element of eyesight testing during a driving test, and 20% of British motorists have not had an eye examination in the last two years, the period recommended by the NHS for regular eye tests.

Unfortunately, twilight for motorists is not the only potential concern Britons face as the clocks change.

Aviva has recently warned homeowners to ensure their sheds and garages are secure, as break-ins surge by more than a quarter when the clocks change.
