Whether its due to a sense of patriotism or wanting to contribute to the countrys economy, when consumers are in the market to buy a new car, theyll often seek to buy American-made models. But as Consumers Reports indicates, a car doesnt necessarily have to be made by a domestic company to be considered American-built.Toyota is the maker of nine U.S.-built modelsFor instance, as the source indicates, Toyota produces nine models in the U.S., eight of which Consumer Reports recommends as good buys. Of all the companies that originate from another country, Toyota produces the highest number of U.S.-built models.Other foreign automakers with a high number of models built in the U.S. include Japans Honda, with eight, and Nissan with seven. Germanys Mercedes Benz is the maker of four U.S.-built models, according to Consumer Reports.Ford, Chevrolet build the highest number of models in the U.S.Of all makes, it may come as no surprise that the two most prolific automakers in the U.S. are Ford and Chevrolet, as each produces 12 U.S-built models. This may come as good news for car buyers who try to remain loyal to domestic makes.Brand loyalty highest with Hyundai, Ford comes in fourthHowever, as a recent study from Kelley Blue Book reveals, shoppers devotion to American automobiles appears to be waning.According to the vehicle valuation company, when it comes to brand loyalty, Ford is in fourth place, as a higher number of car buyers are finding their allegiances lie with foreign car producers like Honda, Toyota and Hyundai. In fact, in this years second quarter, Koreas Hyundai ranked highest for brand loyalty.”Hyundais product renaissance is benefitting the company not just by attracting an all-new customer base, but by helping them to retain current loyal Hyundai owners, as well,” said Arthur Henry, market intelligence manager for Kelley Blue Book. “This latest brand loyalty analysis from KBB.com is a testament to the power of attractive vehicle designs and intriguing marketing in the minds of in-market car shoppers as they consider their next vehicle.”What explains the increased loyalty to Hyundai? According to KBB, and as Henry suggested, it likely has to do with aggressive advertising campaigns for specific models such as Hyundais Elantra and Sonata. As a general rule, however, KBB states brand loyalty is down among car shoppers, largely resulting from the struggling economy and high fuel prices that have plagued much of the country.
