Switching home insurance providers can save money

A report by insurance comparison website Confused.com has revealed that homeowners in the UK are losing out on hundreds of pounds by not exploring possible savings from switching their home insurance provider .

It was found that people owning their own homes could save in total up to GBP1.7 million each year if they shopped around for improved deals on home insurance and moving to a new provider if they offered better terms that currently being received.

The findings show that homeowners are losing out on an average saving of GBP96.43 a year if they found improved terms on buildings and contents insurance policies .

Homeowners admitted that the main reason they did not investigate switching insurance provider was they believed the hassle of doing so would outweigh the cost savings achieved, with 19 per cent of people taking part in the survey responding that this was why they did not switch. Car Insurance Holders Must Go For Regular Safety Checks

The drivers have been urged to carry out regular safety checkups of their vehicles to avoid any collision and thereafter any kind of insurance claim. It is a legal requirement that every motorist must take good care of the vehicle and go for regular checks. According to a bank research, more than 20% of the motorists do not go for regular safety checks for their car every month. One among three motorists thinks that there is no need of any kind of regular safety check every month.

According to the law, the tyre tread depth must be at least 1.6mm so that the vehicle runs smoothly on road. Only 38% of the motorists go for checking the tyre tread depth whereas rest of the drivers remains negligent about their tyre trade depth update.

Only 56% of the motorists check the car coolant regularly while other leave their car at risk of overheating. Around 50% of the motorists do not check the brake lights and windscreen wipers leaving themselves in risk.

Auto Insurers Should Not Pay Claims Caused By Cell Phone Use

How do you change behavior and poor decision making amongst people? Sometimes you have to motivate someone in order to change their habits. That is one of the reasons that the United States has one of the lowest personal savings rates in the world; there is no incentive to save, but there are several incentives to go further into debt.

For example, if you take out a home mortgage, the government allows you to deduct the interest you pay the bank from your income taxes. But, if you pay for that same house with cash that you have saved up over the course of decades, you receive nothing for your hard work and dedication to saving.

Which action do we as a society want to promote? Which do we value more? Do we want to encourage a culture of savings or continue to subsidize our infatuation with debt? The same ideas can be applied to our driving habits.

Motorists turn to more fuel efficient cars as car insurance costs rise

Motorists are being hard hit with rises in car insurance and petrol and many are thinking of choosing a more fuel efficient car when they next buy one.

According to research carried out by moneysupermarket.com, almost 50 per cent of those questioned believe that they will purchase a more fuel efficient model next time as they try to save money on motoring costs. Around 10 per cent said the price of car insurance will have a direct bearing on which model they buy and some people said that they will be using public transport instead as driving has become too expensive.

Pete Harrison, car insurance expert at moneysupermarket.com commented: “With prices on the up it is more important than ever drivers ensure they are shopping around for the best deals on insurance, those who do will reap rewards and make their hard earned cash go further.”

The comparison site also warns drivers not to get involved in frontingÂ’ for their children which is illegal.
